He Came, He Swore, He Conquered: Guenther Steiner Live

Guenther Steiner: The Man, The Myth, The Door. This legend is known throughout the world for his no-nonsense, straight-talking comic wit. From his early days working with rally cars, Günther has grown into a respected and iconic figure within the world of motorsport.

This funny chap doesn’t just have fans in the paddock — thanks to the global success of Drive to Survive, he’s now won over millions more. His unfiltered comments and unforgettable catchphrases catapulted Guenther into the celebrity spotlight he so clearly deserves.

And yet, despite the fame, he’s still the same Guenther we all fell in love with: humble, insightful, and effortlessly hilarious.

So of course, when I heard he was attending a theatre near me, I simply had to go: Guenther Steiner Unfiltered LIVE.

The show focused on his outstanding career — from his early rally days, where he saw his first job in motorsport advertised in a magazine, to building a race team completely from scratch, to his time in the States, and ultimately his impressive Formula 1 journey. This man has done and seen it all. It’s his seemingly unfazed, no-nonsense approach that has won over the hearts of so many fans.

Hearing about his relationship with F1 legend Niki Lauda was a true joy. What started as a short, 20-minute conversation about a potential job opportunity turned into a two-hour meeting — something many found relatable. Niki was notorious for keeping conversations short and to the point, much like Guenther himself. So, of course, the audience erupted with laughter when Guenther recalled returning home.

His wife asked, “Did you talk about the job?”

“No,” Guenther replied.

Typical Guenther. Ultimately, it led him to a job working on Niki’s team and kickstarted his outstanding career in Formula One. Listening to him talk about that time was genuinely fascinating.

But then came… the Russians.

This part of the show was particularly entertaining — Guenther didn’t hold back when it came to the Mazepins. It was clear that period was one he was truly grateful to have behind him. Never again, he implied, would he work with an oligarch.

Of course, Drive to Survive and Guenther’s famously colourful language made for a great topic of discussion. In one clip they played during the show, the “F-word counter” quickly ticked into double digits. Like many who learn a new language, it seems the swear words are always the first to stick. And honestly, what else do you really need to learn?

Then came the final part — the Q&A. A QR code was shown on screen during the interval, allowing the audience to submit their most burning questions for Guenther. A few were chosen to be read out, while others, though very amusing, were clearly a bit too cheeky to make the cut. Still, they were great fun to scroll through.

Since I saw him the day after the British Grand Prix, naturally there were a few questions about Nico Hülkenberg’s triumph with his very first podium. Guenther seemed genuinely happy for him, especially given their history from Nico’s earlier career.

Overall, it was a really lovely experience and I could have listened to Guenther for hours, even though he claims his English is no good. Good thing I bought he’s book, which the lovely man behind the desk made him sign fresh that morning. They say time flies when you’re having fun, and they certainly aren’t wrong. It was my first time ever going to a talk like this and I definitely want to go to more.

Have you been to see Guenther or another personality like this? Let us know your experience in the comments.

Sincerely,

Catherine
