The One Where Strictly Went Off Script (In the Best Way)

Published on 1 December 2025 at 08:21

So, we’re now onto week ten and after last week where no one went home the pressure is on. Points and scores from the judges’ scores last week were rolled over and added to this week’s scores, which instantly raised the stakes and made every step feel that little bit more crucial. The couples came into the ballroom knowing they had no safety cushion this time, and you could really sense the tension building throughout the evening. There’s also a chance to score extra points in the instant dance round, a new round for this year to add to the chaos and drama of this glorious show. It brings a whole new layer of unpredictability, leaving both the celebrities and professionals guessing right up until the music starts, and honestly it makes the whole night feel even more exciting for us watching at home.

We also had an amazing dance performance by the professional dancers. It was particularly special given it was choreographed by past professional Oti Mabuse. I always loved her work when she was on the show and this was no exception.
Sadly, we said goodbye to Alex and Johannes who danced the Cha cha. She did much better the second time round in the dance off. I actually think this may have been the tightest dance off yet. Still, both will be very much missed but she should be proud of how far she came and most of all the dancer she has become.

So let us get to it. As usual, I will go through the couples in order of appearance.
Alex Kingston – Cha cha (6)
Oh Alex. There were quite a few mistakes in this dance, issues with timings and missteps were obvious tonight. However, I loved her cool, easy and classy style in this dance. Her leg technique was lovely and I loved her straight leg walks. Perhaps maybe the rib injury is bothering her more than we realised as I felt sometimes it was a little tentative.
George Clarke – Quickstep (9)
This is why I love Strictly. This is classic Strictly. His frame was beautiful throughout. This dance had an ease to it, it felt effortless gliding around the floor. It was giving proper Fred Astaire vibes. He’s leading Alexis so brilliantly. Love it!
Lewis Cope – Rumba (9)
Gorgeous. I really loved this dance. It was sensual and fluid. I did feel at points it was a little too sharp in certain places. Having said that they told a beautiful story, full of emotions and a sense of gentleness. It’s such a hard job for male contestants to dance this dance but I really felt he gave it a great attempt.
Balvinder Sopal – Jive (7)
This was a cheeky dance which was enjoyable to watch. I do feel it could have done with a little bit more bounce and there was a mistake. I think Balvinder has such a great spirit, again and again she has come back, she has such strength that should be commended. I did like the vibe of this dance too, cheeky and fun.
Karen Carney – Couples Choice (10)
What a brilliant dance. You could really feel the message Karen was portraying throughout. Her turns were outstanding she really span like a top. The emotion was felt throughout, and really I feel she was born for this. She had so much energy and a fire inside her that I hope will never be put out again. She showed the audience that with hard work anything is possible.
Amber Davies – Jive (10)
Yes, yes, yes. This was perfect! I love watching Amber, as we always get to see new and innovative tricks and moves. I love them and it really shows the trust between Amber and Nikita. It was like watching a West End show. Great performance, great energy, great everything!

And here comes instant dance. They have no idea the music, the costume or the dance. What could possibly go wrong?
The costume picking honestly had me in stitches. Claudia throwing all sorts of clothing towards the celebs, the red fluffy coat on George… I just can’t. Nikita, what on earth in the Anton Du Beke is he wearing? Love it. And Claudia’s hat… divine.
This was an utter joy to watch. I love the chaos of this. Bring on more. I agree with Anton let’s do this every week!
My order: (1-6)             Lewis and Katya
                        Amber and Nikita
                        Karen and Carlos
                        Balvinder and Julian
                        George and Alexis
                        Alex and Johannes

What an amazing night! I love chaos and the unknown. It’s probably the most I’ve laughed at this programme since the crazy dances that Anton competed back in the day. How can you forget his spectacular Sambas, and anything danced with Ann Widdecombe.
So, next week we’re onto the quarter finals, where the theme is Musicals. Can’t wait to see my favourite musicals performed next week.
What did you think? Who was your favourite this weekend? Did you like the new instant dance? Let us know in the comments.

Keep dancing,
Catherine
