We’re now onto week four. At this point in the competition, we’re starting to see the improvements from the celebrities more visibly. We’re back to the normal judging panel and may I say they all looked smashing in their outfits, especially Anton’s white number (hello, Mr Bond).
The competition is now heating up. Sadly, we lost Chris and Nadiya after performing a Salsa. I think this was the right choice this week out of the two in the dance off. Chris had really started to improve and seemed like a really lovely chap. It will be a shame to see them go.
So, let’s get to it. As usual, I’ll go through the couples in order of appearance.
Karen Carney - Quickstep (7)
A great way to open the show. I love these dances that just scream ballroom. It was fun, elegant, and everything I love in a quickstep. Karen really both danced and played the part beautifully. A shout-out for that gorgeous dress, too.
Harry Aikines-Aryeetey - Rumba (6)
As rumbas go, it wasn’t bad. They had great connection and good timing. I felt he could have finished the moves a little more, but overall, it was a solid effort. Great support for Karen, too, and they told a lovely romantic narrative.
Vicky Pattison - Samba (7)
The dreaded samba! I thought she did amazingly. Her hip rotation was great, and she hit all the choreography brilliantly. She’s starting to relax a little more into the dances, and that’s great to see. Full of fun and energy.
Stefan Dennis - Charleston (6)
Firstly, I’m so glad to see Stefan back in the ballroom after his absence last week. This dance was perfect for him, full of fun, cheek, and energy. He played the character so well, and I loved the unique tricks they both included. And who doesn’t love a cartwheel?
Lewis Cope – Foxtrot (9)
Wow, wow, wow. This dance felt effortless and so smooth. I loved the way they seemed to glide around the floor. He looked like a proper gentleman, leading Katya with confidence. Truly lovely to watch.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank – Couples Choice (8)
One of the reasons I like Couples’ Choice as a category is that it gives the celebrities an opportunity to show us a little glimpse into their culture. I loved this. It was full of bounce, fun, and energy. I really liked how much it meant to Jimmy and his family. A truly special dance, and I can imagine what a celebration must have been like for Jimmy and his family growing up.
George Clarke – Tango (7)
I still cannot believe this guy has never danced before. This dance was powerful, with strong lines throughout. Very strong, and I loved the ending pose. I think if he could drive forward a little more it would help, but again, the improvement is very clear.
La Voix – Cha cha (4)
Hmm, I love La Voix, but this was not her dance. The timing was off, and there were a few mistakes. This was probably her weakest dance so far. I did like the slow-motion movements and the boxing characters.
Balvinder Sopal – Paso Doble (8)
This dance had power and strength. Balvinder really stepped into the character required for this dance. I loved her work with the skirt, giving a real Spanish, authentic feel. It really captured a traditional Paso feel. Her Spanish lines were brilliant. This is a dance that does not belong in the dance-off at all this week!
Alex Kingston – Rumba (10)
Those Rumba walks. She looked fantastic. You can really see that this week Alex has worked hard on her technique, her leg and body positioning. She really embodied this dance, and I honestly think you could not tell the difference between her and JoJo. This was effortless and perfect. Side note, massively underscored by Craig.
Chris Robshaw – Salsa (6)
Don’t we all just love a bit of Ricky Martin, one of the best songs to get into the salsa spirit. I have a soft spot for Chris as it is clear he tries so hard and takes on the judges’ critiques. While the salsa itself needed more hip action and rhythm, those lifts were incredible. Amazing strength was shown in being able to twirl and throw Nadiya around.
Amber Davies – Argentine Tango (9)
Powerful, strong, and intense. From beginning to end, the intensity was felt. I love this dramatic side of Amber. The legs were so perfectly intertwined, and that ending lift was excellent.
Ellie Goldstein – Couples choice (8)
Oh Ellie, our shining golden star. I love to watch Ellie as she looks like she is really enjoying dancing. Such a sweet soul who deserves the world. The dance was full of energy and bounce. Once again, more improvement was shown.
I have to admit this series is going to be tough. The competition is so close! At the moment, I cannot call it. Each week has seen a different couple at the top, and I think that is what makes this series so great. Do you agree? Who is your favourite? Let us know in the comments.
Keep dancing,
Catherine
